Willa Dean Ellison, age 76, of Newport, passed away Friday, May 14, 2010, at her home. Willa Dean was a founded member of Bridgeport Freewill Baptist Church. She loved her church very much, and she always put it first. Before she became ill she loved to cook, and enjoyed cooking for everyone. The Ellison’s owned and operated Ellison’s Grocery in the Irish Cutt Community for 23 years. She sang with the Happy Harmony Trio for 10 years, singing in many local churches and surrounding areas. She will be sadly missed by her family and church. She was preceded in death by her father, Earl Renner; mother, Pauline Poe Renner; brothers, Robert (Bob) C. Renner, Robert Poe and special aunt, Anna Huff and her husband Delmer Huff. She is survived by her husband of 60 years in August, William Matthew Ellison; son Michael Ellison and wife Brenda, of Newport; daughter, Rita Ann Ball and husband Billy Dale, of Newport, Debra Kay Hurst and husband Carl of Newport; sisters-in-law, Theda Renner of Newport and Ann Poe of Colorado; grandchildren, Buffy Ball Wilds and husband Dale, Jennifer Hartsell Cocco and Jonathan Hartsell and wife Crystal; great grandchildren, Megan Wilds, Amber Wilds, Allison Hartsell and Natalie Cocco; also several nieces and nephews; and special friends Scottie Derry, Ruth Whitlock and Wanda Southerland all of Newport. Funeral services will be held 8:00 pm Sunday, May 16, 2010 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Billy Ball, Rev. Hal Kirk and Rev. Mike Sutton officiating. Burial will be 11:00 am, Monday, May 17, 2010 in Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm Sunday at Manes Funeral Home.
