McDERMOTT, DONALD EVERETT - of Knoxville, formerly of Etowah, Tenn., departed this life Sunday, October 22, 2000, at the University of Tennessee Hospital. He was born February 2, 1949 to Charles A. and Willie M. McDermott. He joined Star Bethel Church, Etowah, Tenn., at an early age. He was a graduate of McMinn Central High School in Englewood, Tenn. and joined the armed forces in 1974 and retired as a Sergeant after 21 years of service. He was employed at the University of Tennesseefor 15 years, also employed by Knoxville Community Development Corp., for a number of years. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Phyllis J. McDermott for 17 years. Preceded in death by parents, Charles A. and Willie McDermott; sisters, Mary Sherlene Chandler and Robbie Lee McDermott; brother, Earl McDermott. He leaves to mourn his passing, devoted and loving wife, Phyllis McDermott; daughter, Revae; sons, Mark of Cleveland, Tenn., Donald Jr. and Christopher McDermott of Knoxville; step sons, Andrew and Eric of Knoxville; seven grandchildren; sisters, Nancy L. Upson and Alice Coleman of Aiken. S.C., Nora J. (James) Turk of Knoxville; brothers, Lee Roy McDermott and Charles E. (Jacqueline) McDermott of Knoxville, Luther C. (Linda) McDermott of Etowah, Tenn., Jerry L. (Billie) McDermott of Cleveland, Tenn.; uncles, George A. (Latrice) McDermott of Etowah, Tenn., Paul (Faye) McDermott of Detroit, Mich.; mother-in-law, Mary Horton; aunt-in-law, Naomi Womble ; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Alice Jones of Knoxville, Ronnie, David (Charlotte) Holt, Authur and Hiwatha (Barbara) Holt of Georgia; devoted family, friend, Edward Lee Butler and James Womble , and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 6-6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bentley Street Christian Church with funeral service to follow at 7 p.m., Rev. Lawrence Womble officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Thursday at Star Bethel Baptist Church, remarks and expressions 1:30 p.m., Rev. Charles Allen officiating. Interment Woodland Cemetery, Etowah, Tenn. Arrangements by Jarnigan & Son Mortuary.
