David Benjamin Hill, local attorney lost his courageous battle with cancer on February 9, 2008, at the age of 57. He was a graduate of St. Leo University, St. Leo, Florida, graduating Magna Cum Laude after three years. He graduated from the Nashville School of Law in 1987 and began his law practice in Newport, practicing 20 years before his illness. He was a member of the Cocke County Bar Association, Newport Masonic Lodge #234, Knoxville Scottish Rite Body, and Kerbela Temple. He is survived by his wife, Sheila; son, Jared, of the home; and son, Brian, and wife, Julie. Grandchildren, Hailey, Izack, and Brylee; great-granddaughter, Takalyn; beloved mother, Margaret Owens Hill, of Del Rio; father, Jim Hill and wife, Nina, of Brunswick, Ohio; sister, Wilma Shropshire; special aunt, Vera Shelton, of Johnson City; several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles; special friends, Vonda Norwood Grigsby and Mike Beach. Funeral service will be 8 p.m., Tuesday, at Brown Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Eric Reagan, the Rev. Jerry Raines, and the Rev. Harold Jones officiating. Family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. prior to the service. Graveside service will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Brown Funeral Home in charge.
