Bradley announces candidacy for County Clerk
NEWPORT- Henry Bradley has announced his candidacy for Cocke County Clerk in the May primary.
"I'm running for County Clerk because I believe in making the office more efficient, more accessible, and most importantly, more convenient," he said.
Bradley is a graduate of Cocke County High School and is currently pursuing a Bachelors in Economics. He is the son of Fred and Dovie Bradley of Cosby, and the grandson of the late Shon and Lilly Bradley of Oklahoma and the late Bob and Lucy Naillon Clark of Cosby.
Speaking of his leadership in Cocke County, Bradley said, "I am proud to have worked with the Cocke County Partnership in coordinating a strategic plan for long-term economic development. This plan for economic development helped Cocke County retain its status as one of Tennessee's Three-Star Certified communities, which is an honor not every county can claim."
In addition, Bradley points to his leadership in education. "The Cocke County Board of Education sought my input in setting goals and priorities for the school system. I was among principals, teachers, and education administrators sorting through statistics and interpreting demographic data of our student population. These stats helped us form ideas and set goals on how to improve the quality of education here in Cocke County."
As a former Beta Club and Student Council President, Bradley has amassed practical experience in leadership and organization. Bradley said, "While serving as your County Clerk, I will apply the skills and experience I gained as a student leader."
In 2006, Bradley served as a delegate from Cocke County to attend The American Legion Boys' State, where he was elected a State Senator. Two years later, he represented Tennessee's first congressional district, which includes Cocke County, in the American Youth Scholarship Foundation's Model United States House of Representatives.
Bradley traveled, along with other model congressmen from across the United States, to Washington, D.C. where he was part of a simulated session of Congress led by current and former members of the House and Senate. Among those having one-on-one contact with Henry were Senator Conrad Burns (R-MT) and Representative Ed Pease (R-IN).
"During the Model Congress program, I served on the House Agriculture Committee under the guidance of the former ranking member of the Committee on Agriculture, Congressman Charlie Stenholm (D-TX)," said Bradley. "My time in these wonderful programs working in various roles has given me top-notch training in office leadership and teamwork."
Bradley was also recently appointed to the Board of Directors of the Newport Theatre Guild. Bradley also volunteers his time for Encore Theatrical Company of Morristown. "Visual arts improve the quality of life in communities all across the country. The same is true for East Tennessee," said Bradley.
Bradley was also chosen to be a People to People Student Ambassador to Europe. He spent three weeks volunteering and living with host families in Italy, France and Malta. When asked about his time abroad, Bradley replied, "I am so blessed to have had the ability to spread the goodwill of America. While representing the United States, I learned the importance of friendly service and hard work--two values I will always employ while serving as your County Clerk."
"By supporting me in my run for County Clerk, the citizens of Cocke County are sending a message that they believe in their children and their grandchildren. They believe in Cocke County's future. They believe in the next generation of Cocke County leadership.
"I thrive on keeping myself busy, paying close attention to detail, and working hard for a great cause. Being from the Volunteer State, I love volunteering. I volunteer the next four years of my life to serve as your County Clerk. I volunteer my time to give back to the community that has blessed me so greatly with so many wonderful opportunities.
"Public service is volunteer work taken to the next level. A public office is meant to be a service and not a career, which is why I volunteer my time to offer you what the County Clerk's office should be-a service. But to do this, I need your help. Your vote on May 4th has my special thanks and is a good start to a great future," he said.
