Wilma Pauline McMahan Rice, age 87, passed away Monday evening at Newport Health and Rehabilitation Center, after a short period of declining health. She was born January 30, 1923 in Cosby, a daughter of the late Wilse and Elizabeth “Betty” (Jenkins) McMahan. She will be remembered for her delightful sense of humor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Rice; step-father, Noah Forrester; twin brother, Paul McMahan; brother Glenn McMahan; infant sister, Velma McMahan; sister, Illa B. McMahan McFarland; and nephews, Clay Webb and Phil McMahan. She is survived by her sister Bonnie McMahan Webb of Newport and brother, Sheridan McMahan of Del Rio; special nephew and his wife Donnie and Lynn McMahan of Cleveland, Ohio; niece and her husband, Linda and Andy Roesky of Cleveland, Ohio; and nieces, Betty Jean Webb Kilgore of Parrottsville; and Sandy Webb of Newport; nephews, James “Monk” Webb of Newport and Eddie Hill of Ohio; stepson Eli Rice of Kentucky; five step-grandchildren, Alfie, Matthew, Michael, Andy and Amy; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. She will also be missed by many, many wonderful and caring friends including Tyler Pierce, Fred and Ruth Spence and Creed and Glenda McMahan, all of Newport. Funeral services will be held 8:00 pm Wednesday, March 31, 2010 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Lester McMahan officiating. Interment will be 11:00 am, Thursday, April 1, 2010, in Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00- 8:00 pm Wednesday prior to the services at Manes Funeral Home.
