ADKINS, JESSE RAY - age 69 of Powell, died Tuesday, November 11, 2003 at Ft. Sanders Parkwest Medical Center after an extended battle with cancer. He was a member of the West Lonsdale Baptist Church. He was the 4th person to join the Oldsmobile Club of America and helped to form the Smoky Mountain Olds Club, a local chapter. He served proudly in the United States Navy from 1954 to 1958 where he received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Service Defense Medal for his term aboard the battleship, USS Forrestal. He retired as an architect from Kaatz, Binkley, Morris and Jones Architect. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Adkins sister and brother in law, Jetta and Allen Ballard and an infant brother. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Kate Nine Adkins, to whom he had been married since November 19, 1960. He is also survived by his daughters and son in law, Beverly Rhea and Rick Mize of Powell, Linda Darlene Adkins of Huntsville, Ala. his two special grandchildren, Joshua Ryan Mize and Amanda Rhea Mize of Powell his mother, Effie Adkins of Knoxville brother and sister in law, Boyd Lee and Pat Adkins of Knoxville several nieces and nephews. The family would like to offer sincere thanks to Dr. Richard Antonucci and his staff and to the caring nursing staff on the fourth floor of Ft. Sanders Parkwest Medical Center - your kindness and loving care are greatly appreciated. Funeral service 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with Rev. T.M. Cody officiating. Family and friends will meet at 11:15 a.m. Friday at Tennessee Veterans Cemetery for an 11:30 a.m. graveside service with Rev. Robert Nine officiating. Pallbearers: Kirby Rand of Powell and various members from the Smoky Mountain Olds Club. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Volunteer State Veterans Honor Guard, P.O. Box 20091, Knoxville, Tenn. 37940 or to the Ronald McDonald House, 1705 Clinch Ave., Knoxville, TN 37916. Jesse Ray Adkins will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.
