Benson announces candidacy for re-election

Charles Dawes Henderson, Jr., age 67, of Goodlettsville, Tennessee, passed away January 13, 2014, at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
Mr. Henderson was born on December 21, 1946 in Cocke County, Tennessee to the late Charles Dawes and Marie (Owens) Henderson, Sr.
His family stated that he was dedicated father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Mr. Henderson graduated from Cocke County High School in 1965. After graduation he volunteered for the United States Army. Mr. Henderson was wounded while serving his country during the Vietnam War.
He was also an over-the-road truck driver for most of his life. Mr. Henderson was an avid NASCAR fan, football fan, and enjoyed fishing. He was a very kind and considerate individual willing to help anyone he could.
He is survived by his wife Ruby Henderson, daughters Judy Lynn, Malia Renee, and Robbie Lea; grandchildren Charles Brandon, Cara Renee, Christopher Shane, and Jackie Michelle; great-grandchildren Trevor Kennedy, Neveah Jade, and Aryan Dae, all of Nashville; two sisters and brothers-in-law Linda and Willard ‘Coot’ Benson of Newport and Sandra and Ricky Clowers of Johnson City; special nieces Tiffany (Bryan) Barnett of Johnson City and Jessica (Mark) McGaha of Newport; great-nieces Carlie McGaha, Tyla and Taylar Barnett, and several nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 212 Washington Ave., Newport, TN. The family will receive friends from 1:00—2:00 p.m. prior to the services. Rev. Ricky Clowers will be officiating the service. Immediately after the service, military graveside services at Union Cemetery will be conducted by the Cocke County Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to the church or charity of your choice.
