BRANDON, Miss. — Paul N. Akers , 86, a former resident of Jonesboro, died Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at his home.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Ott & Lee Funeral Home Chapel in Brandon, Miss. There will also be visitation from 2-3 p.m. Saturday in Emerson's Memorial Chapel in Jonesboro. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Pine Log Cemetery near Brookland.
Paul Nathan Akers was born on Oct. 19, 1924, at Brookland to the late Charles Clifton and Sadie Letitia Wilson Akers . He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Marines. He was a decorated member of the 6th Marine Division. He received the Purple Heart after being wounded at Okinawa.
He had worked in commercial refrigeration service for more than 50 years.
Mr. Akers had been a resident of Brandon since 1983. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Brandon. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Akers Gill.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Margaret Akers of Brandon; six daughters, Judy Akers Hannah and husband Frank of Jonesboro, Carol Akers Crain and husband Garry of Louisville, Tenn., Dorothy Akers Brady and husband Mike of Sherwood, Kathy Akers Gray and husband John of Brandon, Joyce Akers Walker of Brandon and Elizabeth Akers Harrison and husband David of Pelahatchie, Miss.; four sons, Charles R. Akers and wife Karen of Orange, Texas, Charles A. Manuel of Monroe, La., Michael A. Akers and wife Anita of Brandon and Clifton P. Akers and wife Mika of Brandon; 22 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
