James “Dexter” Strange, age 73, of Newport, passed away, Thursday, February 2, 2012. He retired from Sonoco Products and joined the staff at Strange’s Custom Auto, Inc. He was a member of Stokely’s Chapel Baptist Church where he was a faithful member and servant. He was preceded in death by his father Bee “Jack” Strange; mother, Lois Price Strange; brother, E.C. Strange; and sisters, Nanna Bee Strange and Martha Webb. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty Jane “Valentine” Strange; son, Tim Strange and wife Angie; daughter Janet Strange Moss and husband Rodney Carroll Moss all of Newport; sisters, Edna “Polly” Shropshire and husband Wayne Shropshire and Jetta Lee Ealy all of Newport; brother, Temmel Rex “Joe” Strange and wife Betty Strange of Morristown; grandson, Logan Carroll Moss and granddaughters, Cierra Ball and Kailye Ball all of Newport; also several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Manes Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, February 5, 2012 at Stokely’s Chapel Baptist Church, with Rev. Wayne Wyatt and Rev. Ed Parton officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. The body will lie in state from 1-2 pm Sunday at Stokely’s Chapel Baptist Church prior to the funeral.
