Joe Ware Armstrong - age 77 of Lenoir City passed away Friday, February 26, 2010 at Parkwest Medical Center.
Joe attended the University of Tennessee. He was a member of Alpha Kappa Alumni Association. He served in the U. S. Navy where he was First Class Quartermaster on the USS Columbus. Joe was the inventor of the original Shadow Screen. He owned and operated Shadow Screen Inc. of Phoenix, Arizona and obtained several patents on his inventions. Joe was known in Lenoir City for designing and making the historic district signs at many homes and businesses.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Emma Armstrong; brothers, Willard "Leo" Armstrong, Robert Armstrong and John Armstrong. Survived by his wife, Shannah Luttrell Waldroup Armstrong; step children, Gary Waldroup and wife, Beverly, Jenifer Hillard and husband, Bo; grandchildren: Caitlin Waldroup, Chas Johnson, Taylor Johnson and Kendall Hillard; several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Friends may call at their convenience at the family home.
Family and friends will gather at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Lenoir City Cemetery for graveside services with Rev. David Smith officiating. Full military honors will be conferred by the Loudon Co. Veterans Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Love Inc. of Loudon County, 111 Sharp Drive, Lenoir City, TN 37771.
