WHITT, GROVER F. - of Blaine, age 91, Born July 21, 1918, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, June 19, after a brief illness. He made God the Lord of his life at a very early age during the first Bible School at Helton Springs Missionary Baptist Church and was later ordained as a deacon in the same Church. He was a member and a Deacon at Holston Memorial Baptist Church, where he taught an adult men's Sunday school class for many years. He attended Block Springs Baptist Church in more recent years, where he made many dear friends. Grover retired from a career in construction, he began with WPA jobs during the Great Depression and later worked as a crew foreman for Roehl Construction Co. He was a member of the Carpenters Local Union. Grover was a past Master of Rising Star #44 Masonic Lodge, a 32 Degree member of the Valley of Knoxville Scottish Rites, and a Past Patron of Mascot #55 Order of the Eastern Star, where he was actively involved until his death. Grover was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Hazel Noe Whitt; parents William Arthur and Nellie Foster Whitt; two infant brothers, one infant sister; brother William Arthur Whitt, Jr.; and sister Willie Mae Noe (Vaughn). He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Glenda and Jack Williams of Blaine; granddaughter and her husband Lesa and Steve Hawkins of Blaine; great-grandson Travis Nicely of Knoxville; great-granddaughter and her husband Jessica and Ben Garland of Knoxville; step great-grandsons Wesley and Jonathan Hawkins; brother-in-law Hack Noe (Mary) of Mascot and sister-in-law Alma Combs of Rutledge; many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. Andrew Waller and nursing staff at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center and Drs. Phelps and Lowery for their care and support. Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2010 with funeral service following at 8:00 p.m. at Smith Reagan Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Wayne Ballard, Rev. Danny Allen, and Rev. Ronnie Beaver officiating. Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Grainger Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00-7:30 p.m. before the service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Block Springs Senior Citizens Fund, c/o Mildred Perrin, 290 Billy Perrin Road, Blaine, Tn. 37709.
