When the press kicked into gear at The Daily Times Sunday, it was without one trusted employee in the pressroom.
James David Herron II, 35, of Maryville, died Sunday at his home.
Herron started working for the Times on June 17, 1997. He started in the mailroom, then moved into the pressroom, where he made the metal plates used on the press to print the newspaper.
“He was a very good employee, and very accurate with the plates,” said David Ledford, production director. “He understood what he needed to do.
”Herron lived at home, where he helped care for his maternal grandmother who suffered a stroke and lived with them for several years.
Herron had trouble with his kidney and liver for several months, his mother, Carolyn Herron, said. He had been hospitalized several times, and died at home.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Four Mile Cemetery with the Rev. Ralph Lee officiating. Friends may call at their convenience at McCamon-Ammons-Click funeral home, 220 W. Broadway Ave., Maryville.
