Obituary:
Luther J. “Jay” Kanipe Jr.
66, of Greenwood Township, died Monday November 2, 2009, at home following a courageous battle against cancer.
He was born July 26, 1943, in Knoxville, TN, the son of Imogene Knight of Port Huron and the late Luther Kanipe Sr.
His marriage to Mary Fisher was February 9, 1981, in Warren.
He served his country with the United States Army from 1963 to 1965.
Luther was employed by General Motors Corporation, Hamtramck, for 32 years until his retirement in 1995 and had enjoyed spending time on his farm.
Surviving in addition to his wife Mary of 28 years are their children, James J. and Donna Mae Parks of Houghton Lake, Karen L and Daniel Mott of Midland, Jeffrey L. Sr. and Doreen Parks of Capac, Richard and Adrianne Parks of Emmett, Bonnie M. and Bryan Horek of Warren, Lauri and James Yow of Warren and Stephen and Gina Kanipe of MD; 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several friends.
His family honors the memory of Luther and invites you to visit and share Wednesday 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Yale. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday with 10:00 a.m. visiting. Rev. Lisa Clark, associate pastor of Capac United Methodist Churches, will officiate. Burial will be in Christian Cultural Memorial Cemetery, Speaker Township.
