(June 9, 1913 - August 18, 2009) Christine Cooper Gregg, age 96, of Newport, passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2009 in Takoma Hospital. She worked in Emma and Ida’s Beauty Shop from the mid 1930’s until 1952 and then operated a dairy along with her husband for over 30 years and was always an avid gardener. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Gregg; parents, Gus David and Mollie Moore Cooper; sisters, Mary Hurst, Edna Taylor, Margaret Strickland; brothers, Creston, Kermit, Clayton and Royce Cooper. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Hooper Gregg, of Newport; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Nelson Parker; grandchildren, Emily Anne Parker and Matthew Gregg Parker, all Huntsville, Alabama; brother and sister-in-law, John “G.D.”and Mary Cooper, of Newport; and other family and friends. Funeral services will be held 7:00 pm Thursday, August 20, 2009 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Charlie Boggan officiating. Burial will be 10:00 am Friday, August 21, 2009 in Union Cemetery.
