(December 10, 1928 - May 27, 2016) U.S. Veteran James Murray Phillips, age 87 of Newport, passed away Friday, May 27, 2016. He was a member of Mannings Chapel Baptist Church. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and retired from American ENKA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Shelton Phillips; parents, Jacob and Nannie Phillips; and brother, Robert Phillips. He is survived by his nephews, Jerry (Diane) Phillips and James “Chopper” (Johnnie Sue) Phillips all of Newport; niece, Sarah Faye Phillips of Newport; caregivers, Y.J. and Elizabeth Parks of Del Rio; and other family and friends. Funeral Service will be at 7:00 pm on Monday, May 30, 2016 in the Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dennis Strange and Rev. Johnny Adamson officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm on Monday at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral service.
