MILLER, ARTHUR BRYAN "TOE" - 79, of Oak Ridge, passed away Thursday, July 8, 2010 at his home after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carolyn Cecilia Miller; daughters, Lisa Miller of Austin, TX and Teresa Pont and husband Brad of Paducah, KY; grandchildren, Lisa Cecilia and Bradley Bryan Pont and Thomas Arthur Miller. In addition, he is survived by two brothers, Kyle Miller of Oak Ridge and John Miller and wife Alice of Clinton; two sisters-in-law, Doris Miller and Cookie Spillers; brothers-in-law, Hubert Percival and Lonnie Spillers; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, Louise Warwick Miller and Arthur Bryan Miller, Sr.; two brothers, Raymond and Jimmy Miller; and a sister, Katherine Percival. Mr. Miller was born in Knoxville, TN, but moved to Oak Ridge as a teenager. Trained as a brick mason, he helped construct many of the city's early homes, businesses and churches. Not only did he help build Kern Memorial United Methodist church, he and his wife were one of the first couples married there and both have remained active members. Mr. Miller was head usher for over 40 years. In retirement, Mr. Miller continued to be an active volunteer and worked on many of the church's special projects including Helping Hands, Ecumenical Storehouse and Angel Food distribution. For several years, Mr. Miller was owner of CMC Construction Company, a major East Tennessee contractor. Mr. Miller was a member of the local Masonic Lodge, Kerbela Shriners of Knoxville, The Benevolent Order of the Elks, The Oak Ridge Boat Club and he was recently honored by the national organization of the Sertoma Club which named him a lifetime member. Mr. Miller actively participated in the Oak Ridge Junior Chamber of Commerce in the '50's and '60's where he made many lifelong friends. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 10 at Kern Memorial United Methodist Church from 1 - 3 pm. A Memorial Service will follow at 3 pm with Dr. Harvey Brown officiating. A private graveside will be held at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family has requested that memorial gifts be directed to Kern Memorial United Methodist Church, 451 E. Tennessee Ave., Oak Ridge, TN 37830 or Covenant Homecare Hospice, 1901 W. Clinch Ave., Knoxville, TN 37916-9986. Weatherford Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
