Harold Allen Hurst passed away peacefully on February 9, 2014. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Elizabeth Williams Hurst, Parents Allen and Isa B. Hurst and sister Shirley Ann Shaffer (Kingsport) He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Terry and Renee Hurst and Mitchell and Alice Hurst: and daughter and son-in-law Marcia and David “Bunny” Hill. Harold cherished his grandchildren: Katie (Jamie) Proffitt, Sara (Hans) Faust, Ryan Hill, Chad Hurst and Kristen (Alan) Garland and his great-grandchildren: Bo and Ellie Proffitt, Vivenne Faust and Karma Garland. Harold is also survived by his sisters Nancy (Watts) Johnson of Newport and Peggy Johnson of Fairfax Virginia and by his brother Bob Hurst of Newport. Harold retired from the U. S. Postal Service after 38 years of service. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Newport, where he served as Deacon and was currently attending Southside Baptist Church. He was proud to have been a Seabee in the United States Navy. He enjoyed life, fishing, hunting and making old things like new. He never met a stranger. Funeral service will be 6 pm Wednesday at the Brown Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Charlie Boggan officiating. Family will receive friends from 4 – 6 pm prior to the service. Graveside service will be 11 am Thursday at the Union Cemetery. .
