Elizabeth Williams Hurst passed away peacefully on December 10, 2012, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents Connie and Hettie Stephens Williams; sisters Ruth Williams, Lucille Campbell, Emma Owens and Maudella Owens; brothers J.C. Williams and LeRoy Williams; brothers-in-law Harold Campbell, Stanley Owens, Cy Owens, Charles Shaffer, Charles Johnson, Boyd Watts and Max Johnson; sisters-in-law Shirley Shaffer and Mary Williams; and father-in-law and mother-in-law Allen and Isa B. Hurst. She is survived by her husband Harold Hurst; sons and daughters-in-law Terry and Renee Hurst and Mitchell and Alice Hurst; and daughter and son-in-law Marcia and David “Bunny” Hill. Elizabeth was devoted to her family and especially cherished her grandchildren: Katie (Jamie) Proffitt, Sara (Hans) Faust, Ryan Hill, Chad Hurst, and Kristen (Alan) Garland. She had four great-grandchildren: Bo and Ellie Proffitt, Vivienne Faust, and Karma Garland. Elizabeth also is survived by sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Wayne Smelcer; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Helen Williams; brother G.D. Williams; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bob and Marjorie Hurst; and sisters-in-law Nancy Johnson and Peggy Johnson and a host of nieces and nephews. Elizabeth was past president of the PTA and then a substitute teacher at Newport Grammar School for 39 years, where she touched the lives of many children. She was a loyal member of First Baptist Church Newport, where she served in a variety of ways including as chair of the Pulpit Committee. She was an active member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the Newport Theatre Guild. Those who knew her will remember how she loved to shop and go to UT football games. The family would like to thank Dr. Ken Johnson and the caring staff at Newport Convalescent Center. Funeral services will be 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 13, 2012 in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home with Dr. Charles Boggan and Chaplain Glenn Bradley officiating. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 14, 2012 at Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home.
