Emma Owens, age 83, of Newport, passed away Saturday morning, March 26, 2011 at her home. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who traveled the world along side her children and late husband. She took great pride in her home, family, friends and her church. Emma was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Stanley Owens, her parents, Connie and Hettie Williams, her sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Harold Campbell, brother Lee Roy Williams, sister-in-law, Mary Williams and brother-in-law, Cy Owens. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Mary Owens of White Pine, daughter, Cathey Owens of Newport; her grandchildren, Todd and Ruth Owens and their sons Will and Gage of Tallahassee, Florida, Tom and Mary Ellen Owens Cooper of Dahlonega, Georgia, and Emmie Owens of Newport. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Maudella Owens, Elizabeth and Harold Hurst, Elizabeth Williams, G. D. Williams, Helen and Wayne Williams and Dorothy Holt all of Newport, Doris and Wayne Smelcer of Chestnut Hill, and Norma Owens of New Market, and numerous nieces and nephews spanning three generations as well as many close friends. Since returning to Newport after sharing twenty-eight years of service with her husband in the U.S. Air Force, she remained active in her church, Newport Presbyterian Church, and in the philanthropic sisterhood of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, which she joined in 1968, and taking care of her family and friends. The family would like to express gratitude to Smoky Mountain Hospice for their care and kindness during a very difficult time. In lieu of Flowers, the family request that memorials be made to Newport Presbyterian Church, 399 Hedrick Drive, Newport, TN 37821. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Newport Presbyterian Church with the funeral service to follow at 8:00 pm, with Dr. Calvin Metcalf officiating. Burial will be 10:00 am Wednesday, March 30, 2011 in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
