Maudella Owens, age 82, of Newport, passed away Friday morning, July 1, 2011 at her home. She retired in 1998 after many years of service at Electro-Voice, where she made many loyal and faithful friends that have remained so throughout her life. She was an active member of the Newport Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, where she took great pride in their fundraising efforts in the support of St Jude’s Children Research Hospital. She had also previously served on the Board of Directors for the Sunset Gap Community Center. Maudella was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wayne (Cy) Owens, her parents Connie and Hettie Williams, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Floyd H. and Dorthula Owens, her brother J. C. Williams, sister Ruth Williams, sister and brother-in-law Lucille and Harold Campbell, brother Lee Roy Williams, sister and brother-in-law Emma and Floyd Stanley Owens, sister-in-law Mary Williams, brother-in-law Lewis Owens, sister-in-law Jestene Owens, brother-in-law Chandler Owens, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Maurice and Patricia Owens. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Phil and Melissa Owens of Newport; granddaughter and husband, Kristi and Sean Brabec of Greenback; grandson and wife, Derrick and Megan Raines of Bybee; two great-grandchildren, Cora Brabec and Owen Brabec. She is also survived by her brothers G.D. Williams of Newport, Wayne (Helen) Williams of Newport; her sisters, Elizabeth (Harold) Hurst of Newport and Doris (Wayne) Smelcer of Chestnut Hill. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Dorothy Holt of Newport and sister-in-law Norma Owens of New Market , sister-in-law Elizabeth Williams, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as, many close friends. The family would like to express gratitude to Drs. Michael Hood, Jay Young and Russell DeVore for the care and compassion given her over the last several years. The family would also like to thank the wonderful care and compassion of Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice for the services they provided. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Newport Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 606, Newport, TN 37822 or to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital in care of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, Sheila Pruitt, 305 Hedrick Drive, Newport, TN 37821. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Sunday, July 3, 2011, at Newport Presbyterian Church with the funeral service to follow with Rev. Yale Gunn and Dr. Calvin Metcalf officiating. Burial will be at 10:00 am Monday, July 4, 2011 in the Union Cemetery. Family and friends may sign the guest register online at www.manesfuneralhome.com. Manes Funeral Home in charge.
