U.S. Veteran Lee Roy Williams, (Pap), age 77, of Newport, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2009 at his home. He was a veteran of U.S. Army having served during the Korean War. He retired from B.A.S.F. in June of 1994 after 38 years of employment. He was a member of Newport Presbyterian Church, where he served as deacon, elder, and a special committee at Holston Presbyterian representing the church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Connie and Hettie Stephens Williams; sisters, Ruth Williams, Lucille Campbell; and brother, J.C. Williams; brothers-in-law, Harold Campbell, Floyd Owens, Cy Owens, Minnis Wiley, Clifford Wiley and Willie Hurley; sisters-in-law, Mary Wiley, Mable Hurley and Mary Williams. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth Wiley Williams of Newport; daughter, Pat Williams of Parrottsville; son, David Williams, of Newport; son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Tammy Williams, of Parrottsville; grandchildren, Bethanie Williams, of Parrottsville and Matthew Williams of Sevierville; brother, G. D. Williams; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Helen Williams; sisters Maudella Owens and Emma Owens all of Newport; sisters and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth and Harold Hurst, of Newport, Dorisand Wayne Smelcer, of Chestnut Hill; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Howard and Betsy Wiley, of Parrottsville, Herbert and Eloise Wiley, Ray and Judy Wiley, of Newport; sister-in-law, Gladys Wiley, Mooresville, Ind; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 8:00 pm Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at Newport Presbyterian Church with Dr. Calvin Metcalf and Dr. Dan Netherland officiating. Burial will be 11:00 am Wednesday, December 23, 2009 in Resthaven Memorial Gardens with military honors. The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm Tuesday at Newport Presbyterian Church prior to the funeral.
