Mertice Jewell Chastain Poe “Morning Glory”, age 80, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2009 at her home surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and friends. Mertice Jewell Chastain will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and sister. Everyone that knew Mertice clearly saw her positive outlook and enjoyed her sense of humor. She was loved by all that knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Caleb and Rose Chastain; husband of 49 years, Cecil James Poe; son, Michael Lynn Poe; grandson, Blake Alexander Wilburn; and brothers, Joe, Claude and Blake Chastain. She is survived by her sisters, Nell Teffeteller and Sue Stinnett; children, Mackie and Jim Allison, Peggy and Dillard Jones, Becky and Mike Hickman, Teddy and Brenda Poe, Rosemary West and Mike Brown, Kathy and Tom Spears, Benny and April Poe, Tami Poe, and Renda and Dodd Crowe; grandchildren, Michael Allison, Chad Allison, Teddy Jones, Wendi Jones, Stephanie Ogle, Ryan Hickman, Josh Thilbault, Shannon Click, Amanda Poe, Simon Poe, Chris Poe, Aaron Wojnowski, Seth Crowe, Olivia Crowe, Eric West, and Ami Phipps; 17 great-grandchildren; lots of loving nieces and nephews; and special friends, Linda and Larry Gourley and Terry Tuttle. Funeral service will be held at 8:00 PM Sunday, December 13, 2009 at Miller Funeral Home, Magnolia Chapel, with Dr. Jerry Russell officiating. The interment will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at Grandview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Sunday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.
