RUTHERFORD , JR., GEORGE "COACH" - of Maryville, died at 3p.m., Thur., Oct. 5, 2000 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was born October 29, 1923. He graduated from Everett High School and was an Air Force Veteran of WWII. In 1951 he graduated from the University of TN , Knoxville. He was a teacher & coach at Lanier High, Everett High & Heritage High School. He retired from Blount County Schools in 1982 with 33 years of service. Mr. Rutherford was also a member of Grandview Baptist Church. Precededin death by his parents, George & Roxie Rutherford . Survivors: Wife of 57 years, Evelyn Whitehead Rutherford ; sons & daughters-in-law, Richard (Ricky) & Barbara Rutherford , Mike and Susan Rutherford , Joe & Diane Rutherford and Terry & Christine Rutherford ; daughter & son-in-law, Nancy & James McLemore; eight grandchildren, Lisa Huskey, Kim Echols, Richard Rutherford , Tyson McKee, Amanda Rutherford , Brandon Rutherford , Jay Wright & Ashli Wright; 8 great-grandchildren, Evan, Erran, Jordan & Thomas Echols, Elisha & Noah Huskey, Windtree & River Rutherford ; brothers-in-law, Don Whitehead , Clyde & Carlene Whitehead ; sister-in-law, Margaret Rhyne. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 PM with funeral to follow in Trinity Chapel, Smith Mortuary. Son, Terry Rutherford and Granddaughter, Lisa Huskey will present the eulogy. Family & friends will assemble at 2:00 PM, Sun., Oct. 8, 2000 at Grandview Cemetery for the interment. Memorial donations may be made to Blount County Library. SmithMortuary, Maryville, 865-983-1000.
