Man dies in wreck
From Submitted Reports May 21, 2005
SEVIERVILLE - A Sevier County man is dead after the car he was driving collided with a pick-up truck around noon Thursday.
According to Sevierville Police Department Officer Mike Israel, a 2005 Oldsmobile Cutlass driven by 85-year-old James Drinnen, of Sevier County, was traveling west on Bruce Street, and a 1998 Dodge 350 pick-up truck driven by 60-year-old Harold G. Byrd, of Kodak, was traveling north on Parkway. The two vehicles reportedly collided in the intersection.
Drinnen and a passenger, 80-year-old Ruby Drinnen, were trapped in the vehicle and extricated by Sevierville Fire Department personnel.
Drinnen was transported by Sevier County Ambulance Service to Fort Sanders Sevier Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, according to police reports. Ruby Drinnen was transported to The University of Tennessee Medical Center with unknown injuries.
Byrd, who was apparently uninjured, was issued a citation for failure to yield to a traffic control device, according to police reports.
