John Edwin Doig, Sr., age 87 of Sevierville passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2015. John served in the United States Army for two years. He graduated second in his class from the University of Notre Dame. His professional career as a mechanical engineer included employment at Chance Vought, Brinks, and Dole Refrigerating in the commercial industry, and Boeing, where he worked on missile and space programs and his accolades led him to be honorably mentioned in the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. He was a cradle to grave Catholic and member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. John was also a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Mary Frances Doig; parents, Edwin and Helen Doig.
His survivors include:

Daughter: Mary C. Williams (Pete)
Grandchildren: John E. Doig III, Stephanie A. Doig, Andrew P. Doig, Amanda N. Williams, Racheal A. Lloyd (Coby), Catherine D. Hompesch (Charles), Deborah L. Doig, Christina D. Kadir (Abdul), Mark A. Doig, II
Great-grandchildren: Sakina Kadir and Jake Hompesch

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Monday with the rosary to follow at 7 PM in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. The Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Tuesday at Holy Cross Catholic Church with the graveside service to follow in Atchley's Smoky Mountain Memory Gardens, Pigeon Forge.
