PURKEY, KENNETH "KEN" WAYNE - age 69, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System. He was born January 31, 1940 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Ken was the owner of the baseball shop located on Henry Street; he worked for Food City before retiring. He was a longtime member of Hillcrest Baptist Church; a volunteer at Morristown Hamblen Hospital and member of Masonic Lodge #231. He is preceded in death by his father, J B Purkey, Jr.; grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. J B Purkey and Mr. & Mrs. John Davis; mother-in-law, Grace Eslinger. He is survived by his wife, Mary Sue; daughter, Tina (Sonny) Wilkinison; mother, Rosa Mae Owens; sister, Sandy Weaver of Seymour; father-in-law, Turney Eslinger of Dandridge; brother-in-law, James (Mary) Eslinger; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Monday, November 16, 2009 at Hillcrest Baptist Church from 6 - 8 p.m. with a Masonic service to follow at 8:15. The funeral will be Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Rev. David Williams and Rev. Fred Agilur officiating. The body will lie in state one hour before the service. Interment will follow in Hamblen Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the building fund for the Family Life Center at Hillcrest Baptist Church. Arrangements by Stetzer Funeral Home, Morristown, TN.
