Lillian Smith Bolton, age 75, of Knoxville, was born September 2, 1934, passed away, Friday, November 6, 2009. Her parents were Dr. Walter Smith and Allene Netherton Smith, of Newport, TN. She was reared in Cocke County and attended Cocke County High School. After finishing high school in Newport, her musical talents took her to New York City, where she attended Julliard School of Music. Upon her return to Tennessee, she continued her musical education at the University of Tennessee and Carson-Newman College, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. After her graduation she was employed with Knox County School Systems, where she taught for 35 years. She was preceded in death by her aunt, Louise Palmer. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Harold Bolton of Knoxville; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Robert Stallings; son, Harold (Sonny) Bolton; grandchildren, Francesca Rebecca Stallings, Sarah Noel Stallings and Christopher Stallings all of Knoxville; special friends, Charlotte Curtis of Knoxville, Nancy Fitzgerald, of Washington, DC, Adeline Foster, Chattanooga, TN and Mary Ann Little, of Newport. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Monday, November 9, 2009 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Rich Lloyd officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery.
