AUGUSTA, Ga.- Mrs. Martha Whaley Bentley, 79, of 20 Mulberry Lane went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, September 20, 2003. Mrs. Bentley, a life-long resident of Richmond County, attended Warren Baptist Church and served in the Childrens nursery there for 43 years. She retired after many years of service with Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. She is also a past member of the African Violet Society and the Railroad Retirement Club. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, the late William Pierce Bentley and her son, Wayne Edward Bentley. Survivors include a son, Donald Lynn Bentley of Smyrna; and a daughter, Karen Bentley Heffner of Augusta; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and a dear friend, Ben T. Lockett. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Dr. David Fleming and Rev. Terry Doss officiating. Burial will be held in Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Malcolm Kling, Joe Pless, Michael Swint, Gabriel Heffner, Danny Agan, and Tony Webb. Memorials may be made to the Gleaners Sunday School Class at Warren Baptist Church: 3203 Washington Rd., Augusta, Ga. 30907 The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Thomas Poteet & Son, 214 Davis Road, Augusta, Ga. 30907.
