MYERS, GARY HUGH - age 69 of Knoxville, passed Tuesday, August 4, at Parkwest Medical Center. Gary was an avid tennis player, a tireless Smoky Mountain trail hiker, an amateur astronomer and an innovative gardener. He graduated from Everett High School, class of 1957, proudly served in the United States Army, and graduated from Lincoln Memorial University, class of 1971. He was a graduate of the School of Medical Technology at St. Mary's Medical Center. During his service in the Army, he developed a lasting love for the culture and people of Germany and San Antonio, TX. Prior to his retirement, Gary worked for nearly 35 years in the laboratory at St. Mary's, where he served as the Technical Supervisor of the Chemistry Lab. He was a Professor for LMU's lab program at St. Mary's. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ola Myers. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 39 years, Doris Martin Myers; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Erik Hamm and grandson, Logan Hamm, Lisa and Rafal Kaminski; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marilyn and Dan Sanderson and Susan and Bob Motley; a host of extended family and friends to include; Uncle A. C. Myers, Aunt Bonnie Peters, the Lab Staff at St. Mary's Medical Center, his tennis partners of 40 years: Jeff and Nancy Folks. The family will receive friends Friday, August 7, 2009, from 3-4:00 p.m., at Sherwood Chapel & Memorial Gardens, 3176 Alcoa Hwy., Alcoa, TN. Memorial service will follow at 4:00 p.m. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations in Gary's name be made to the Chronic Disease Fund at www.cd.org, or to the American Cancer Society . Arrangements by Sherwood Chapel & Memorial Gardens.
