Betty Ruth Mull Sullivan, of Rockford, Tennessee, passed away in her home on Saturday, March 8, 2014. She was 88. Born and raised in Blount County and a graduate of Everett High School, Betty worked as a Western Union operator and secretary at the Alcoa West Plant Machine Shop office prior to becoming the long time secretary for Drs. Proffitt, Yarborough, and Peterson. Over 35 years with the Doctors, Betty had the opportunity to meet nearly all of her Blount County neighbors. She will be remembered by friends and family alike for her gentle nature and kind heart. Betty was a long time member of St. John's United Methodist Church, where she also sang in the choir. Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Gaily Mull, her brother Edward Mull, and her Son-In-Law Joe Ingram. Betty is survived by her husband of 68 years, Ralph Edward Sullivan, their two children, Teresa Ingram and Steve Sullivan and Daughter-In-Law Janet Sullivan, and her siblings, Mayor Don Mull, Sylvia Fagg, Shirley Taylor, Patsy Coulter and Sister-In-Law Betty Jo Mason. "Nana" will always be remembered by her five surviving grandchildren, Daniel Sullivan, Stephany Sullivan, Christopher Sullivan, Jennifer Wackerhagen and husband Jason Wackerhagen, and Meredith Rigsby and husband Josh Rigsby, as well as her four great-grandchildren, Elijah River Sullivan, Rylan Forest Sullivan, Benjamin Sullivan Fletcher, and Taylor Jo Wackerhagen. The family will receive friends from 5:30pm until 7:00pm, Monday, March 10, 2014 at Smith Trinity Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 7pm with Rev. Tony Collins & Rev. Bill Shelton officiating. Interment at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at Grandview Cemetery. Arrangements by Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, 865-983-1000.
