Emily Anne Ashe Oakley, age 83 of Knoxville, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2016. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Gatlinburg.
Mrs. Oakley was a proud graduate of the class of 1950 of Knoxville High School and a 1954 graduate of Webster College in St. Louis, Missouri. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma.
Mrs. Oakley taught 3rd grade for 25 years at Park Lowry Elementary and for 7 years at Flenniken Elementary. She was coach and director of the Park Lowry Track Team for many years. She stayed active in retirement, serving as a Pink Lady at Baptist Hospital as well as serving for 15 years on the Board of Directors for the Knoxville Teachers Federal Credit Union.
She was a Lady Vol Basketball season ticket holder for 32 years. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends and made regular visits to her Gatlinburg cabin. Among her varied passions was her love for animals as she fed and rescued many.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Rubye Ashe; brother and sister-in-law, Hubert J. and Betty A. Ashe; brothers-in-law, Earl Oakley and Raymond Oakley; sister-in-law, Ruby Roberts.
Mrs. Oakley is survived by her husband of 61 years, Fred Oakley; nephew Tony Ashe and his children Brittany and Taylor Ashe, nephew Terry Ashe and wife Tracy and their children Whitney Ashe, Corey Ashe and wife Rachel; great-great-niece and nephew, Gabriel and Brielle Ashe; sister-in-law, Dorothy Ellen Maples; brother-in-law, James Doyle Oakley and many loved nieces, nephews and family members.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Gatlinburg, 111 Oglewood Lane, Gatlinburg, TN 37738 or Smoky Mountain Historical Society, P.O. Box 5078, Sevierville, TN 37864.
The family will receive friends 2-4 PM Saturday, February 13 with funeral service to follow at 4 PM in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. Rev. Larry Burcham will officiate.
Family and friends will meet 2 PM Sunday in Smoky Mountain Memory Gardens for interment.
