Stella Marie Rogers obituary
- [S4] Knoxville News-Sentinel (Tennessee), 13 Oct 2009.
LEMONS, REBA FAYE LOWE - age 79 of Knoxville passed away October 11, 2009 after years of courageously battling injuries from a car wreck and lung cancer. Our mother slipped away peacefully with her family around her. She has gone ahead of us to sing praises to the Lord (Psalms 27:6). This was one of the many verses my mother loved and found comfort in. How appropriate that she slipped away while we were reading this verse to her. She was proceeded in death by her husband John Paul Lemons; mother Florence Lowe; father Roy Guffey; daughter Norma Jean Moore; twin sisters Helen Newman and Ellen Cannon; sister Stella Rogers; brother Don Holland. She leaves behind to treasure her memory daughters Susan Williams and husband Dennis, Darlene Lucas and husband Rick and Portia Merriman; special friends Dexter Loveday, Alma Norman and Revie Franklin; special nephew Hugh Cannon; brothers Edward Guffey and wife Mary, Fred Guffey, Johnny Ray Guffey and wife Donna, Virgil Guffey and Bruce Holland; sisters Willie Mcamis and Gladys Yabbra; a host of nieces and nephews who stood by and brought many smiles to mom. She had 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Our mother never had a harsh word for anyone and a welcoming smile and hug for all who entered her home. No matter how much pain mom was in she always said "A good hug is worth standing up for." She never complained nor did she ever let her "Girls" see her cry. Our mother was a strong and loving person and all she ever wanted or wished for was for everyone to love and accept each other so the world would be a better place. We would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Jonathan Degnan for your creative way you saved our mothers leg and allowed us to have her in our home for 16 more years. To Dr. Allen Rice for the tender care and the smiles you made possible and to St. Mary's Hospice for your kindness, tender care and for singing to our mother while you were with her. Thank you all for the care you gave our mother. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Mary's Hospice, 7447 Andersonville Pike; Knoxville, TN 37938 or in honor of Dr. Jonathan Degnan of University Orthopedic Clinic in memory of Mrs. Leman or to the charity of your choice. The family will gather at the family home at 1819 Crockett Street; Knoxville, TN 37917 on Thursday from 6-9 pm to fellowship with the family. Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City is in charge of arrangements.
