WARE - Louis F. "Spooks" Barbiasz , 87, of 21 Dunham Ave. died yesterday at Mary Lane Hospital.
He leaves two brothers, Joseph and Mathew Barbiasz , both of Ware; three sisters, Delia Purda of Brattleboro, Vt., Mary Kos of Grafton and Rose Barbiasz of Ware, with whom he made his home; and several nephews and nieces.
He was born in Ware, son of John and Cecilia (Sobieraj) Barbiasz , and was a lifelong town resident.
Mr. Barbiasz was an assessor for the town for 31 years, before retiring in 1973. He was also a Hampshire County deputy sheriff and honorary police officer.
He was a past president of the White Eagle Society. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 183, the Weir River Club, the Aspen Street Rod and Gun Club and the Democratic Town Committee.
He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and a member of its choir.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. from Cebula Funeral Home, 66 South St., with a Mass at 11 in St. Mary's Church, South Street. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Calling hours at the funeral home are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.
