HOLBROOK, BRENDA GAIL SMITH - 64, died unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, October 3, 2009. Brenda's strength came from God, her family, and especially her three grandchildren. Brenda married her best friend, Robert Gerald "Jerry" Holbrook, in 1962 and was happily married for over 46 years. Jerry and Brenda had two children, Robby and Todd Holbrook, both of Clinton. Their family grew with the addition of two daughters-in-law, Stephanie Holbrook married to Robby; Jeanine Holbrook married to Todd, and three grandchildren, Morgan, Colby, and Jacob. Brenda loved her family. She was especially proud of her grandchildren, and was her happiest when they were all together. Brenda was a member of the New Salem Baptist Church, where she enjoyed participating in many church programs. She worked in the Anderson County Clerk's Office in Clinton for over forty years, where she was the Office Manager for the last eight. One of Brenda's greatest pleasures was working with the public and helping to run the day to day events of the office. When Brenda was not with her family or working at the Anderson County Clerk's Office, you would find her working in her flower gardens. She had a passion for her yard, and all her beautiful plants. Gardening gave Brenda great peace and happiness. Brenda adored sports. She was not only a Tennessee fan; she also loved and supported the Clinton Dragons for years. She enjoyed watching her boys and grandchildren play ball; she was their #1 fan. Brenda has many nieces, nephew, great nieces, and great nephews whom she adored. It was not uncommon to see Brenda at the schools and sporting events for all her nieces and nephews; she was an active grandmother and aunt. When entering her home or office, one could see many pictures of all her family and friends. Jimmy Ray Smith, Brad Smith, Wendi Smith, Allison Smith all of Oliver Springs, Dr. DeAnn Holbrook Asbaty and her husband Ray of Knoxville, Phil Holbrook Jr. and his wife Vonna of Olney MD, and Bryan Johns of Knoxville and his wife Michelle, and Jason Johns of Clinton and his wife Cambie were all special to Brenda. Brenda was the perfect aunt who had a very giving heart. Brenda was loved by everyone. She was not only a friend to many, many called her their friend. If one is measured by the number of friends they have in life, Brenda was most blessed. Brenda is survived by her brothers, Jimmy Smith and his wife Cathy of Oliver Springs, Doug Smith and his wife Sheila also of Oliver Springs; mother-in-law, Mary H. Holbrook of Clinton; brother-in-law Phillip L. Holbrook and his wife Betty of Oak Ridge; sister-in-law Candace Garrett and her husband Dr. Mark Garrett of Clinton; uncle Charles Smith and his wife Jo of Oliver Springs, and uncle Newel Lane of Oak Ridge. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde Ray and Rethal Myrtle Stooksbury Smith of Oliver Springs; her father-in-law, Abbott M. Holbrook; and brother-in-law, Michael R. Holbrook of Clinton. Services for Brenda Gail Smith Holbrook will be held at Holley Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. Receiving of family and friends will be Tuesday, October 6, 2009 from 6:00PM-8:00PM with the service to follow at 8:00PM. The grave site will be Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at 10:00AM at Sunset Cemetery in Clinton. The family and friends of Brenda Gail Smith Holbrook will not just remember the days of her life; we will remember the moments she made so special in our lives and we will hold these memories in our hearts forever. John 11:25-26 (King James Version) Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.
