PERKINS, BILL - born Chester William Perkins, Jr. to Emma Lee Perkins and the late Chester William Perkins, Sr. on September 14, 1942 and passed away at his home in Powell, Tennessee surrounded by family and friends on April 19, 2011. Bill was a mechanical engineer and worked for the Department of the Navy at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., NASA at the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL., the Oak Ridge National Laboratories, and most recently TVA. Left to mourn his passing are his loving wife of 48 years, Carol Ann Perkins; son, M. Todd Perkins: daughter, Summer Harmon and husband, Scott: grandson, Jordan Harmon; granddaughters, Megan Harmon and Shelby Perkins; loving sister, Linda Koontz and husband, Jim, who was more like a brother; niece, Lori Mayfield and husband, Clay, great nieces, Kaitlyn and Kilsey Mayfield; special brother-in-law, Don Rhodes and wife Barbara: special brother-in-law & care-giver, Rusty Anderson; loving brother-in-law, Larry Bunch and very special friends, Ralph and Marge Chambers. The family wishes to express their special heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Myrwood Besozzi and staff, especially Kim and Dr. William S. Broome and staff. A special loving thank you to the UT hospice nurses, Kendra, Sandy, Debra and Carolyn. Few people are blessed to have known someone like Billy. He loved his family dearly; and always had a smile, a warm handshake, and a lending hand for anyone in need. His love will endure forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. A private, family celebration of Billy's life will be held on Friday, April 22, 2011. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Make a Wish Foundation, East Tennessee Chapter, 510 South Willow Street, Chattanooga, Tennessee 37404, a charity that was close to Billy's heart.
