L. Lynn Nipper , hospital leader, dies at 74

During Mr. Nipper's tenure at St. Mary's, the hospital developed a new Women's Pavilion, a professional office building for physicians, several satellite primary-care facilities, an on-site day-care center for the children of employees, a convent for resident nuns, and expanded other facilities and services.
Before joining St. Mary's, he worked at General Motors and at hospitals in Georgia. In 1975, he was hired at St. Mary's as an assistant administrator for finance. By 1983, he had become president and chief executive officer. He retired in 1994.
In an interview with the News Sentinel, Mr. Nipper reflected on his work in hospitals and said, "I have loved every minute of it. It is something I can see positive results from."
