Mr. James Harry Wood, 78, 898 Burnett Street, Newport, TN, died on Wednesday, February 25, 2004, after a brief stay in the VA Nursing Home.
A native of Cocke County, he was the son of the late George and Maude Wood.
Mr. Wood honorably served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy. He was an electrician with Stokely's Can Shop. After retiring, he opened and operated S & W Security for several years. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Wood, Newport; a daughter, Tracy Large, and a step-daughter, Teresa McGaha, both of Newport; two sons, Roger Wood and Ronnie Wood, of Morristown; a brother, William Probe Wood, Newport; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Wood was preceded in death by a daughter, Jamie Wood; a sister, Lucille Librock; and two brothers, Pete and Paul Wood.
The committal and inurnment service with Military Honors will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, March 2, 2004, in Mountain Home National Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kelly Ray Laws, Steven James Laws, Jeff Large, and John Bowen.
Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:50 p.m. on Tuesday.
