James Hoyt "Jimmy" Murphy, age 64, of Maryville, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, June 24, 2006, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a faithful member and deacon at Springview Baptist Church where he also served as treasurer for many years. Jimmy retired from ALCOA after 30 years of service. He was also a former board member of the Pregnancy Resource Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rollie and Ruth Mull Murphy.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma Keener Murphy; daughters and sons-in-law, Michele & Marty Kelso, Kim & Dave Long; grandchildren, Chris and Kevin Hundley, Adam and Joshua Long; step-grandchildren, Holly, Brian and Justin Kelso, all of Maryville; brother and sister-in-law, Don & Nellie Murphy, of Jasper, Ga.; uncle, Bob Mull; aunt, Helen Peterson McCammon, both of Maryville; nieces, Tanya Adams and Rhonda Stell, of Georgia.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Springview Baptist Church with Rev. Guy Milam, Rev. Alvin Tallant and Dr. John Franklin officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday at the church.
The burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Carpenter's Campground Cemetery. Deacons of Springview Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Jim Murphy Memorial Fund at Springview Baptist Church, 4220 U.S. Hwy. 411 S, Maryville, TN 37801 or to the Pregnancy Resource Center, 3028 Old Niles Ferry Rd. Maryville, TN 37803. "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. ..." II Timothy 4:7.
