David Taylor announces candidacy for Cocke County Trustee
David Taylor is announcing his candidacy for the office of Cocke County Trustee in the May 4th Republican Primary.
Taylor is a life-long citizen of Cocke County. He is the son of Alma Winkle and the late Harold Taylor. He has five siblings, all residents of Cocke County. David is married to the former Anita McGaha, an employee of the Cocke County Board of Education, and they are the parents of Matthew, who resides in Washington, DC. Matthew is employed by Grumley Construction. The Taylors attend Crossroads Community Church. David enjoys outdoor sports, especially fishing.
An associate of Baptist Hospital of Cocke County, Taylor has served in capacity of purchasing manager for the past 25 years.
"Through my position at Baptist Hospital of Cocke County, I am keenly aware of budget planning," he said. "I am in charge of supplies ordered by the hospital as well as the receiving and distribution of those supplies. It is part of my job to see that every supply received into this hospital is high quality at a fair cost. I do compare prices of all items ordered to make us operate on a daily basis as efficiently as possible.
"Because all businesses operate on a tight budget, I am well aware of the constraints placed on all businesses, and this certainly includes Cocke County."
Taylor, a member of the Cocke County Legislative Body for the past 12 years, has served on the Finance, Public Safety, General, and Landfill committees and currently is a member of the Public Records Committee. As a member of the CLB, he recognizes all areas of county government and exactly what it takes to make the county run efficiently in these troubled economic times.
"If elected Trustee," Taylor states, "my goal would be to have an open door policy so that any citizen of Cocke County would have access to me at any time." Taylor emphasizes the collection of all county taxes in a timely manner as well as how those taxes are invested is also a priority.
"I ask for your vote in the May 4th Republican Primary. I promise to serve Cocke County with integrity, honesty, and professionalism and to be available to every Cocke Countian," Taylor states. He adds, "I would greatly appreciate your support and vote."

David Taylor, age 52, passed into his heavenly home, Thursday, June 8, 2017. He has a special kindness and an intense desire to serve. He loved his family and friends and always displayed a smile and had encouraging words for others. He recently retired from the local hospital after almost 30 years. He served on the county legislative body for 12 years. He enjoyed carpentry and home improvement projects after retirement. He was of the Baptist faith and attended Crossroads Church until his recent illness. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Taylor; sisters, Gail Taylor and Ann Valentine; and brothers, Donnie Taylor and Gary Taylor. He is survived by his wife, Anita Taylor; sons Matthew (Allison) Taylor and Isaac Taylor; mother, Alma Winkle; brother, Ricky (Lori) Taylor; special friend, Robin Hogan; brothers-in-law, Bobby Valentine and Darin McGaha. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice for their excellent care and compassion and to Jamie Yarbrough, a special caregiver and friend. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Crossroads Church or to the charity of your choice.
