Jonah Carl Stooksbury, 79, of Norris, died Monday, May 11, 1998, at Mariner Health of Norris.
He was born in Loyston, Tenn., on Sept. 5, 1918, to Mr. and Mrs. John B. Stooksbury.
Mr. Stooksbury was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. After his military service he worked for more than 20 years for Magnet Mills in Clinton, then worked for NCR in Oak Ridge. After retiring, he worked as an independent painting contractor.
He devoted the last four years of his life to caring for his wife, Lorene Worthington Stooksbury, who is now a resident of Mariner Health.
Mr. Stooksbury was a member of the United Methodist Church of Andersonville. He was also a member of Andersonville Valley Masonic Lodge No. 383 and a 32nd-degree Scottish Rite Mason.
In addition to his wife of 61 years, he is survived by two daughters, Carlene Blazek of Brea, Calif., and Judy Beach of Lawrenceville, Ga.; and four grandchildren, Laura Cicerrillo of San Marcos, Calif., Susan Dunlop of Aliso Viejo, Calif., and Michael Beach and David Beach, both of Lawrenceville.
He is also survived by two sisters, Ruth Human of Norris and Dorothy Heth of Beaufort, S.C., and a brother, Kyle Stooksbury of Lenoir City.
A sister, Edna Keeney, and two brothers, Roy Stooksbury and Bernie Stooksbury, died earlier.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 16, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton, with the Rev. Lowell Elkins officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 17, at Norris Memorial Garden in Norris.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
