Lucille Oakes, 87, of Andersonville, died Thursday, July 1, 1999, at Mariner Health of Norris.
Mrs. Oakes was born in Anderson County on June 22, 1912, the daughter of John and Maggie Poston Stooksbury. She was a Baptist.
She was the widow of Roscoe R. Oakes.
Mrs. Oakes is survived by her daughter, Edith Palko and her husband, Alfred, of Whiting, Ind.; her son, George Oakes of Andersonville; two sisters, Jessie Hewitt and Bernice Hunley, both of Andersonville; and by four brothers, Delbert Stooksbury and Harley Stooksbury, both of Andersonville, Robert Stooksbury of Lancing, Ill., and Claude Stooksbury of London, Ky.
Mrs. Oakes is also survived by nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and by several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 5, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Larry Ridenour officiating.
Burial will follow at Norris Memorial Cemetery, Norris.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 4, at the funeral home.
