Jessie Stooksbury Hewitt, 77, of Andersonville, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at St. Mary's Residential Hospice.
Mrs. Hewitt had worked as a secretary in the Personnel Department for Tennessee Eastman Corp., which operated the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant in the early years of Oak Ridge.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Andersonville and a member of Clinch Valley Chapter No. 383 of the Order of Eastern Star in Andersonville.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Lincoln "Mayo" Hewitt; her daughter, Sonya George and her husband, Tim, of Andersonville; her grandchildren, Christopher, Jo Lee Ann, Bobby and Jayna Marie George; her sister, Bernice Hunley and her husband, James R. Hunley Sr., of Andersonville; and her brothers, Delbert Stooksbury and his wife, Mae, Harley Stooksbury and his wife, Claudette, all of Andersonville, Claude Stooksbury of London, Ky., and Robert Stooksbury and his wife, Evelyn, of Lansing, Ill.
Mrs. Hewitt is also survived by her sister-in-law, Christine Stooksbury of Lansing, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
Mike, Tammy, Randi, Lacy and Ben Mellon were considered special friends.
Mrs. Hewitt was preceded in death by her parents, John Wesley and Maggie Polston Stooksbury, and her brothers and sisters, Elmer E. Stooksbury, Rush Stooksbury, Roy Stooksbury, Harless Stooksbury, Bertha Hatmaker, Lucille Oaks, Zina Rouse, Leona Melton and Margaret K. Stooksbury.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, June 1, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Terry Moore officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 2, at Norris Memorial Gardens.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the Building Fund at First Baptist Church, 3949 Andersonville Highway, Andersonville, TN 37705.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
