KOONTZ, GERALD A. (JERRY) - age 57 went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 1, 2009. A veteran of the Vietnam War, Army Sgt. First Class, he was a great patriot, an avid lover of UT Sports and riding his Harley. He was a 23 year employee of Consolidated Insurance Services, a 1969 graduate of Central High School and a member of West Park Baptist Church. Preceded in death by father, Floyd L. Koontz; and daughter, Tanya Lynette Koontz. He leaves his wife Melissa (Missy) F. Koontz; and beloved sons, Richard of Charleston, SC and Ryan of Knoxville. Other family members include mother, Juanita Koontz Wagner; sister, Susan McKesson and husband Jim; brothers, James (Jimmy) and wife Linda, Doug and wife Karla, Dennis and wife Angie; father-in-law, Jack Fox and wife JoAnn; sister-in-law, Jill Gentry and husband Charles; as well as a multitude of nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He also leaves his special friends and neighbors, James and Terri Kerr, and much-loved Elizabeth Hamilton. Arrangements are being made through Stevens Mortuary. Family will receive friends Tuesday, August 4th from 6 - 8 p.m. with funeral immediately following at 8 p.m. Family and friends meet Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at 10:15 a.m. at Sherwood Memorial Gardens on Alcoa Highway for 10:30 a.m. interment with Rev. Michael L. Koontz officiating. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers: Brandon Koontz , Braxton Koontz, Tyler Koontz, Jeffery Gentry, Daniel Gentry, Tim Koontz, Mark Koontz, Blake Bivens, Tom Welch, Mike Bell, George Taylor, and Sam Watts.
