HAIR, JAMES M., JR. (FUZZ), Major U. S. Army Retired - age 80, of Lenoir City, passed away Monday, September 10, 2001, at his home. Jim attended the First Church of The Nazarene. A member of Avery Lodge #593 F&AM and was a 32nd degree Mason. He served in the U. S. Army, retiring after 42 years with the rank of Major. Major Hair's service included World War II in Okinawa, the Korean War and the Tennessee National Guard, with which he helped organize locally the Tennessee Defense Force. He received the American Theater Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and UN Service Medal. Major Hair was to receive the Korean Service Medal as issued by the Korean Government. After serving with the Army, Jim retired from the Lenoir City Postal Service. He was preceded in death by parents, James M. Hair, Sr. and Florence (Dollie) Bowden Hair, and brother, Gene Hair. Survived by wife of 60 years, Ruth Nelson Hair; children, Sharron Powders and husband Vernon of Alva, Okla., and David Hair and wife Connie of Lenoir City; grandchildren, John Powders of San Diego, Calif., Laura Powders of Atlanta, Ga., Kelly Moser and husband Sam of Sweetwater, and Amanda Hair of Lenoir City; great-grandchildren, Lant and Morgan Moser; sisters, Joyce Hawkins and Florence Evans, both of Lenoir City, and Agnes Kinser of Kingston; brothers, Raymond Hair of Meridan, Miss., and Dorman Hair of Columbus, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will gather at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hawkins Chapel and proceed to the Lenoir City Cemetery for graveside services at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ernie Varner officiating. Full Military Honors will be conferred by the U. S. Army. Serving as pallbearers, Bill Yates, Bill Saul, Vernon Henderson, Don Wilson, Glenn Robinson and Kenneth Hines. In lieu of flowers, the family requests, memorials be made to the First Church of Nazarence, 111 Sharp Drive, Lenoir City, TN 37771. Hawkins Chapel, 102 B Street, in Lenoir City, is serving the Hair Family.
