WHITEHEAD, HAROLD B. - of Knoxville , age 87 , passed away on Saturday , October 19 , 2013 , at the University of Tennessee Medical Center . He was the son of the late Noah Bunyon "Bun" Whitehead and Sarah Lela Caylor Whitehead . He is survived by his son, Bruce of Knoxville ; and daughter, Nancy Trusty (Bob) of Sandy Springs, Georgia; as well as grandchildren, Ryan Trusty, Drew Trusty, Jennifer Floyd, David Whitehead and Vicki Green; plus five great grandchildren, Edward and Rachel Floyd, Emily Whitehead , and Xander and Siana Green. He was preceded in death by his brother, Glenn Whitehead ; and sister, Mary Ila Leamon. He is survived by brothers, Charles Whitehead of Newport, Tennessee , Dale Whitehead of Adairsville, Georgia, N. B. Whitehead of Ten Mile, Tennessee ; and sister June Wood of Maryville, Tennessee . Harold was born in Townsend, Tennessee , and attended high school in Maryville, Tennessee , before graduating from Etowah Tennessee High School. He then attended Tennessee Wesleyan College and graduated from Bowling Green, Kentucky Business University . He then served in the United States Army Air Corps during the later part of World War II. Harold worked as a CPA with Ernst and Ernst Accounting firm in Knoxville before becoming Director of Finance for the University of Tennessee - Knoxville until his retirement. He was a former member of Arlington Baptist Church and later Central Baptist Church, Bearden where he served as treasurer and deacon. He recently became a member of Second Presbyterian Church. Harold also served for many years as treasurer of Riverbend Homeowners Association and Craig Cove Homeowners Association. Harold 's hobbies included barbershop singing, woodworking, sailing and being a private pilot. Harold was married for 66 years to Mary Davis Whitehead , formerly of Etowah, Tennessee , until her passing on December 7, 2012. Since her death, Harold had resided at Shannondale Retirement Community in Knoxville , where a memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2013 , Reverend Renee Willingham will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Shannondale Chapel, 801 Vanosdale Road, Knoxville , TN 37909. The family request memorial donations be made to the United Way, Second Harvest Food Bank or Habitat for Humanity.
