SPARTANBURG, SC -- Rev. W. C. Pate, Sr., 96, of 2768 Cannons Campground Road, and Black Mountain, NC, died Monday, August 23, 2004, at his home. He was the husband of Virginia Baker Pate, of the home, and son of the late Turner and Lizzie Edwards Pate.
Rev. Pate was a retired Baptist Minister having pastored churches in NC and SC. He was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, he attended Mars Hill College and Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute. Rev. Pate was first married to the late Bernice Ledbetter Pate.
In addition to his wife, Rev. Pate is survived by three daughters, Colleen Horton and husband Jerry of Kershaw, SC, Carolyn Faulkenberry of Mooresville, NC, Kay Mobley and husband Rex of Black Mountain, NC; two sons, Dr. William C. Pate, Jr. of Startex, SC, Rick Pate and wife Regina of Green Creek, NC; two sisters, Lula Miller of Burnsville, NC, Hazel Hollifield of Spartanburg; fifteen grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia Pate.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Broad River Baptist Church, Highway 9, Black Mountain, NC, officiated by the Revs. Keith Davis and Dr. William C. Pate, Jr. Interment will be in The Ledbetter Family Cemetery with visitation to follow at The Broad River Baptist Church.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 24, 2004, at Bobo Funeral Chapel from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
