James, 74, of Newport, passed away Tuesday evening, February 1, at her home, following a lengthy illness. She was a devoted homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Jefferson City. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Samuel James; infant son, John Walter James; grandson, James Dewey Mooneyham; granddaughter, Tiffany Belcher; father and mother, Walter and Toye Henderson; brothers, James and Vester Henderson; and sister, Irene Henry. Survivors: children, William James and wife, Imogene of Newport; Gary James and wife, Linda, of White Pine; Carl James and wife, Dean, of White Pine; Willadean Fields and husband, Roger, of Blountville; Ella Grant and husband, Ronald, of Bluff City; Alma Buckner and husband, Charlie of Talbott; Vanessa Bowden of Trouteman, North Carolina; and Brenda Kelley and husband, Richard, of Newport; sisters, Rosie Bullington, Edna Henry and Beatrice Cagle; brothers, John and Luther Henderson; 15 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. Additional survivors include several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday evening, February 3, at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, February 4, at the Costner-Maloy Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jeffery Havel ofÞciating. Interment will be in the Grooms-Henderson Family Cemetery.
