MAGILL, JOE - passed away May 18, 2012. He was the youngest of five children, born to the late Charles and Anna Magill, on a 140 acre farm in Bear Creek Valley in the Wheat Community, which is now part of Oak Ridge. He is survived by his sister, Eula Cooper of Memphis; his brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Jane Magill of Clinton; his sister Marie Wall of Shelby, North Carolina; and his beloved wife of 58 years, Mary Magill. He is also survived by Carla Farmer, his sister-in-law, who provided tremendous help and comfort during the last several months. Mr. and Mrs. Magill have three children, Elizabeth Ann Magill of Powell, Angela R. Magill of Brentwood, Tennessee, Michael E. Magill and his wife Deborah of Oak Ridge. They also have two grandchildren, the joy of their lives, Hannah and Peter Magill. He is also survived by eight loving nieces and nephews and their spouses, as well as a number of great nieces and nephews. He was blessed to have many cousins and scores of friends. Mr. Magill is predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Beulah and James Cooper; his brother-in-law, Henderson Cooper, husband of his sister, Eula Cooper; and his brother-in-law Rev. Woodrow Wall, husband of his sister, Marie Wall. Mr. Magill considered it an honor to have served as County Judge of Anderson County for eight years, being the last to have that title. Mr. Magill received his B.A. from Carson-Newman College and J.D. from the University of Tennessee College of Law. He practiced law in Anderson County for 45 years. Mr. Magill was a member of First Baptist Church, Clinton, Tennessee for 59 years. He served on numerous committees and was proud to have been named Deacon Emeritus. He was active in the Clinton Civitans Club, where he served on numerous committees. Mr. Magill loved gardening and raising fruit trees - and giving away the fruit. It brought him great pleasure to walk in the woods - gathering flowers and plants along the way. The high point of the summer was standing in the creek to pick blackberries on his birthday, July 3rd. He and his wife enjoyed traveling - especially taking cruises to explore other counties. After retiring from the practice of law, he spent a great deal of time in his woodworking shop making furniture for his children. His final piece was a corner cabinet based on an early American style he remembered from his childhood. He loved music and participated in numerous programs and galas presented by the clubs in Clinton. As his health declined, Mr. Magill had to enter an assisted living facility. Even though everything around him changed, he did not. He made many new friends and was grateful to all who were kind and helpful to him. The family would like to thank all those who gave of their knowledge, talent and compassion to help care for him. Mr. Magill had a full and happy life filled with family, friends and countless blessings from God. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Monday, May 21, 2012 at First Baptist Church, Clinton, followed by the service at 2:00 pm. The internment at Grandview Memorial Garden in Clinton will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 268, Clinton, Tennessee, 37717 designated for their 2013 Remote Area Medical project at the Church. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. www.holleygamblefh.com
