Greenville Robert Dylan Gates, nine-year-old son of Terry Lynn and Kimberly Lynn Cates Gates, of 192 Valley Road, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, at his home.
He was born in Greenville County and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Marietta.
Among Dylan's interest were Barney, Play-Doh, motorcycles and making other people happy. He was considered the "Social Greeter" at the hospital.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Aaron Creed Gates and Charles Isaac Gates, both of the home his grandparents, Bob and Wanda Cates of Newport, Tenn., Roy and Brenda Guswelle of Travelers Rest and Maggie Gates of Newport, Tenn. his great-grandparents, Helen Cates of Hartford, Tenn., and Alberta Cook of Greenville, Tenn. and his honorary grandparents, B.J. and Cora Albright, of Marietta.
He was predeceased by a grandfather, Creed Gates, and a great-grandfather, Ben Cates.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at the funeral home, with burial at Coleman Memorial Cemetery in Travelers Rest.
The family is at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mission Fund at New Hope Baptist Church, P.O. Box 397, Marietta, SC 29661.
