U.S. Veteran John Howard Dunn, age 62, of Newport, passed away, Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. He was a loving father and devoted husband. He was loved by all who knew him. He will be remembered for making others laugh. He was a Vietnam Veteran having served in the US Army. He was a war hero having received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medal as well as numerous other medals. His favorite thing to do was to play with his grandchildren. He will be missed by all, but we are looking forward to seeing him again in Heaven. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Jesse Dunn and Marian Hall Dunn; brother, Joseph Edward Dunn; nieces, Gina Renee Mason and Connie Dean Fine; nephew, Joby Jonathan Giles; and brother-in-law, Wayne Giles. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Bonnie Joyce Hollis Dunn; children, Mary Faye Dunn (Scott Verheeck), John Howard Dunn, Jr, (Sandi Blazer Dunn), and Lisa Ann Dunn; grandchildren, Madison Renee Dunn, Abby Lorraine Verheeck, Elijah James Dunn, Noah John Dunn, and Molly Ann Baxter; brothers and sisters, Patricia Giles, Loura Evelyn Asato (Jason), Linda Fine (Dealous), Jimmy Dunn (Karene), Susan Dunn (Mike Halpin), Ida Coggins (Johnny Carroll), Sandra Dunn (Donnie Ball), Roger Paul Dunn, and Danny Allen Dunn, also numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm-8:00 pm Thursday, March 22, 2012 at Manes Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Friday, March 23, 2012 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Zane Stuart officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery with Military Honors.
